Titus 1:1 Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the sake of (kata) the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth for the sake of (kata) godliness.
In the Charismatic world I’ve experienced a separation between theology and practice. The thought seems to be that theology is all well and good for those who are interested in it, but what really matters is your spiritual practice and your actions (German liberal philosophers would love that).
I was reading the pastoral epistles this morning and came across the verse above. One of the goals of Paul’s ministry is that the elect will know the truth. The purpose of them knowing the truth is that they will be godly. What I want you to see is that there is no division between right thinking, right being, and right living – they all go together. Don’t allow people to convince you that deep Bible study is a waste of time. But also don’t forget the goal of Bible study – right worship.
